INCREASE IN WAGE RATES FROM 1 APRIL 2025

On 1 April 2025  the National Minimum Wage (NMW) and National Living Wage (NLW) rates will  be increased by the largest amount since their introduction as follows :-

  • NLW payable to all employees aged 21+ will increase from £11.44 to £12.21 per hour
  • NMW  payable to employees aged 18-20, will increase from £8.60 to £10.00 per hour
  • NMW payable to employees aged 16-17 will increase from £6.40 to £7.55 per hour
  • NMW payable to apprentices  (aged 19 and under)  will increase from £6.40 to £7.55 per hour

It is the Government’s intention to keep narrowing the gap between the 18-20 NMW and the NLW to achieve in time  a single rate for all adult workers.

Employers are not obliged to inform employees about the above changes  but it may be sensible to let them know.

However, an employee should be notified when the applicable rate changes due to their birthday.

The real living wage, calculated on the real cost of living in the UK and voluntarily paid by over 15,000 UK employers has risen to £13.85 per hour in London and £12.60 per hour for the rest of the UK.. Accredited real Living Wage employers have until 1 May 2025 to implement these increases.
