Faulty Product - what are your legal rights ?

You can rely on the Consumer Rights Act 2015 if you buy a faulty product online.

You have 30 days to reject it and to have a refund.

If you have owned a product for more than 30 days and less than 6 months you may have to give the seller one opportunity to repair it before you can ask for a replacement or a refund.

After 6 months of ownership,  you  may be asked to prove that the product was inherently faulty when you first took ownership of it – you can do this by using an official report or by gathering evidence of similar complaints online

The Consumer Rights Act applies when buying from a trader whether that is directly with a retailer or from a third party business or an online market place.

If you bought a faulty item from a private seller in the marketplace your rights are more limited

Give yourself added protections by paying using a credit  card for purchases over £100 and up to £30000 so that you may be covered by Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act
